The Discouraging Problem With My Basketball Passion (January 2020)

For those on the very off chance who are wondering if I'm pursuing a career in analyzing the NBA, I'm not despite my crazy passion for the league. I know that's pretty shocking considering my social media pages are absolutely flooded with NBA super junkie stuff. I'm trying to get into cardiac rehab or something similar in a hospital-based setting. For years I've been very interested in that so I'm confident I made the right decision. Also medicine might have the highest job demand which is also where my confidence comes from. TV shows and movies dominate entertainment because you can just sit, relax and watch amazing theater basically without having to think and understand to know what's going on. (I'm honestly not being a bitter hater, that's just reality. I know it doesn't seem like it but I've watched A TON of that over the course of my life, and I absolutely love doing so). So the market for people who are very interested in analytical writing about sports is really small (which I've noticed since middle school) because it requires too much understanding to qualify as mainstream entertainment, therefore making it too educational. The average person doesn't want to do anything that feels academical when they want to enjoy themselves which is completely understandable. I'm like that for the most part. Anyway, something that proves my overall point is that Netflix and Disney plus, where you can record an unlimited amount of movies and tv shows, are like 10 bucks a month. To do the same thing with sports, my mom pays 60 (she paid about 100 until she got a recent discount). To clarify, the sports channels she pays for isn't 60 (or 100) dollars. The sports package increased the TV payment to these amounts. By the way, I STILL can't get NBA TV. Anyway, it just really hit me tonight like it hasn't ever before about my complete lack of confidence of pursuing a career in something I've always been deeply passionate about. I started social media only because in the summer of 2018 my family kept persuading me that I should try to make a name for myself by creating a platform based on my crazy interest in the NBA. That's when a profession as an NBA writer first ever crossed my mind in a serious manner.
